Psalms  ◦   Chapter 57

1Show your favor to me, O God, show your favor to me,
for I have surrendered my life into your care.
In the shade beneath your wings I am safe and secure
until the storms of life have passed.

2I call out to God — Ruler of heaven and earth,
the Creator — who completes his work in me.

3He sends his remedy from heaven and heals me,
saving me from the guilt and condemnation that seek to consume me;
God sends his never-failing love and liberating truth.

4Enemies, like lions, surround me;
I sleep among people who are like ravenous beasts — seeking to devour others —
whose biting and sharp comments pierce hearts like arrows,
whose words cut deeply like swords.

5Rise up and take action from heaven, O God;
let your glory shine over the entire earth.

6My enemies have set a trap for me,
and I am tired and worn down.
They dug a pit in my path,
but they have fallen into it themselves.

7My mind is set, O God,
my heart is settled;
I will sing your praises.

8I will awake!
The harp and lyre will come alive!
I will awaken in the morning.

9I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the people;
I will sing your praise with the family of God.

10For your great love is the basis of life in the entire universe,
and your truth — the foundation of the smallest particle of matter.

11Rise up and take action from heaven, O God;
let your glory shine over the entire earth.
