God is Love – All the Time

God is Love – All the Time

God is love – all the time! There is never a time – past, present, or future  – where God is anything other than love! And Love is “not self seeking” (1Cor13) – all the time! There is never a time when love seeks itself. There is never a time when God seeks self.

  • For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotton son… (John 3:16)
  • This is how we know what love is that Chirst gave his life for us and we ought to give our lives for your brothers (1John 3:16)
  • Greater love has no man than he give his life for his friends (John 15:13)

God is the creator and as creator He built and constructed everything in harmony with His own nature/character of love. He gave of Himself to create. He gives of Himself to sustain all that He created. This design template, this code upon which nature is built, is called God’s law. God’s law is love.

  • Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matt 22:37-40)
  • Love is the fulfillment of the law. (Romans 13:10)

What happens to a person if they deviate from the law upon which life was constructed to operate? What happens if a person chooses to stop drinking, eating or breathing? Will God be forced, by their disobedience to His laws of health, to exact a penalty and kill them, or will death be the inevitable outcome to those who remain out of harmony with God’s design for life (law)?

This is exactly what the Bible teaches. In the Bible, deviations from God’s design, breaking the law upon which He constructed life to operate, is called “sin.” So when you read “sin” think “breaking God’s construction protocols for life.” And the Bible is clear, just as breaking the laws of health naturally result in death, likewise breaking God’s moral law naturally results in death, unless Someone intervenes to save:

  • The wages (the payment from sin) of sin is death (Romans 6:23)
  • Sin when full grown brings death (James 1:15)

The Bible says we are “born in sin conceived in iniquity” (Psalms 51:5)

This means we are born in a condition which is out of harmony with the way God built life to operate. He built life to operate upon the law of love, the principle of selfless giving. But we are born selfish, egocentric, me-first, survival-of-the-fittest. In the Bible this condition of selfishness is called “sinfulness” or “carnal nature” and because this condition is out of harmony with God’s design for life, it is a terminal condition. Without remedy, without divine intervention we will all die – FROM THIS CONDITION. Because life can only exist in harmony with the way God built it to run.

We are born “dead in our transgressions and sins” (Ephesians 2:1, Col 2:13). In other words we are born in a terminal condition.

This is why Jesus came. To bring us back to trust in God and to provide remedy to our condition, to overcome fear and selfishness, to restore in humanity God’s perfect law of love, to rebuild humanity back into God’s original ideal. Christ Jesus overcame where Adam failed!

In Christ Jesus we have a Savior, a remedy, a new heart, mind, character, motive, attitude that all may receive freely. When we trust Him the Holy Spirit is sent and takes all Christ has achieved and reproduces it in us. Our fears are removed, our need to protect self is eroded and our desire to love others grows. We get a “new heart and right spirit” (PS 51). We have the “law written on the heart and mind (Heb 8:11). We “become partakers of the divine nature” (2Pet 2:14). We become like Jesus in heart and mind, loving God and others more than self!

This is what God wants for us and this is what Satan wants to prevent. Therefore Satan has created an elaborate counterfeit, a counterfeit which deceived angels, a counterfeit which deceived millions, a counterfeit which caused God’s chosen people to put Christ on the cross. We face that same counterfeit today. A counterfeit that makes God out to be the source of pain, suffering and death rather than the protector, redeemer and healer.

I have found it fascinating that some people resist this God of love and are offended at the idea that sin kills, whereas God saves. Instead, such persons argue for a God who tortures and kills. A friend in Singapore emailed me yesterday and referred me to a website which criticizes me by name. The very first criticism states:

“In short, Dr. Jennings believes that God takes no initiative in causing prolonged pain during the destruction of the wicked, and that to prolong or cause punitive suffering is torture and that such a view of God (that he would cause prolonged pain as part of punishment) destroys love and trust.”

Wow, people arguing for a God who will use His power to inflict pain on His creatures, arguing for a God who will actually cause a miracle to torture His children. What do you think? Which version of God do you believe is true? What Jesus said, “if you’ve seen me you’ve seen the Father, the Father and I are one.” (When did Jesus torture anyone?) Or what Satan alleges that God must torture His children? Do you prefer a God who is above earthly pettiness, above human passion, above selfish vengeance? Or do you prefer a God who is less like Jesus and more like some earthly ruler?

According to Scripture we are in a war over the “knowledge of God” (2Cor 10:5) and we have before us two God concepts – one in which God is the cosmic inflictor of pain, suffering and death. The other in which God is love, the great creator who built His universe to run only in harmony with His own nature of love. And in this universe sin, deviations from God’s design, is what causes pain, suffering and death while God our creator has poured out all heaven to stop sin and “fix”/heal His creation!

The real issue is who do you understand God to be? Is God love – all the time, or is God something other than love – a being or tortures and kills? This is the question, what answer will you choose?

Your teachings about our heavenly Father have changed my life. Thank you sooooooo very very much! I know He’s doing some serious healing in my heart and life and I look forward to each new day to learn something new about Him and to just hear you speak about Him. Thank you, forever.

It was very touching to hear the testimony of your class share how viewing God’s true character has changed their lives. My feelings are the same – there is so much freedom in knowing that God LOVES me – regardless of my… just, REGARDLESS! I’m still blown away by the true gospel, the fact that God is not ready to strike us when we fail. He is not arbitrary. He simply loves us and warns of the natural consequences because He can’t stand to see us suffer. I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS GOD!!!

I’ve been very blessed by “The God Shaped Brain” and this ministry, through video and podcast, over the last few years. It’s truly opened up my eyes more to the truth about God and the importance of that truth in the present world. The message is so inviting, freeing and enlightening and MORE people need to know about it. I believe it is the last message that can truly, not only prepare a people for salvation and translation, but vindicate the character of God.

Thank you and may God continue to bless you as you share with others the intricacies of how we are all “fearfully and wonderfully made”. I must share that you have opened a whole new world to me, and I have found tremendous healing through what you have shared in two of your books, “Could It Be This Simple?” and “The God Shaped Brain.” I praise God for what you shared, what I have learned, and how I have grown and healed! My prayer is that My Precious Jesus will be seen by others in the way I live, act, talk, etc. and they may be encouraged to know He is truly a GREAT God of LOVE, desiring that no one should perish! God Bless you in your continued endeavors to present Him as He really is!

I was invited over a friend’s house to see the “God and Your Brain” seminar today. I became [a christian] 36 years ago at the age of 19, but have struggled with the concept of God taking His ‘pound of flesh’ out on His Son to be appeased. Wow. Your seminar has been an incredible revelation and breath of reason and fresh air! I have your book, “The God Shaped Brain,” and it is SO eye opening. Finally, after 36 years enlightenment has come! Praise the Good Lord! What can I say, but that the Real Gospel is truly “Good News!” Thank you for your efforts in giving the Gospel a clear sound!

You have helped make sense of thirty two years of confusion. The material you freely provide reorganized so much of my life into such a beautiful pattern that has always been hinted at from within, but misguided with my training and what I was experiencing externally. My filipno parents, who were converted from Catholicism to SDA, were sincere and did their best to raise me the right way and I have deep respect for them. However, being immigrants and not understanding the language made for a difficult transition as I was growing up, which also applied to my spiritual growth as I learned the patterns of religion. I have been listening to as many bible study classes and reading blog posts as my time in a work truck will allow, searching for the practical applications of where spirituality and reality meet, and I thank you for helping me find that. You have helped me reach a point in which I can truly say that I love God, that I believe He loves me, and, like David, I delight in His law. God bless.

The Healing the Mind DVD set tarted me on a journey that has changed my relationship with our loving God more significantly than any other study, and brought me to your book and Bible study podcasts, which I now listen to daily, thanks to the availability of archived content on your site and on iTunes.

I have been sharing Come And Reason Ministries Bible study lessons with several folk. You have such a beautiful view of the plan of salvation. If we had this message preached when I was young, my generation would still all be in church.

Testimony 28

I have been following your Bible study class for about a year now. I must say I am impressed with how your ministry has grown. I took it upon myself to listen to all your lesson podcasts from the past and they have both enriched me physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I have learnt a lot from this class. I have also noticed how the class has grown in spiritual strength. One of the things that benefited me is that now I am not afraid of God. I use to be, but now it has melted away. The second thing is that you helped me to have a real life relationship with God. Now He is my friend that was always there and I love having him with me all the time. Thirdly, because of this class, it inspired me to take over and lead a class. I have called it “Let Us Reason Together,” adapting your inquisitive style and creating a class of free thinkers.

I would love to have a copy of “Healing the Mind” DVDs to have in my therapy office. I enjoy having clients check out materials to enhance their therapy experience. I have sat under Dr. Jennings’ teaching at an American Association of Christian Counselors convention and respect his work greatly.

I am absolutly on fire with the message at Come and Reason! I can’t get enough! I’ve read your book, blog, and articles. I’ve listened to your Bible study podcasts, your radio show, and your series – all excellent! It wasn’t until the past couple of years that I have I like I’m becoming “healthy,” with more to share with others than just beasts and commandments! I used to be a Bible worker and preached when the pastors were gone until I had had enough. I didnt realize at the time what the problem was, but i know now… the message wasn’t properly focused. Now my flame is rekindled. All of your little examples are so perfect in explaining something “complicated” and making it easily understood! Now I’m trying to shape it into a life changing evangelistic series! Thank you!

I just want to tell you how blessed I have been reading “The Remedy!” It has become a daily part of my devotional relationship with God. In it I have found a God of love and a God that loves me! The bible has come alive for me! It is the first time that I can say that I have felt hope fill my heart as I have read God’s word. This is good news I can share! Thank you, Dr Jennings! Thank you for your heart for others. I can’t put into words how this has set me free! It has strengthened my trust and love for God.

I can’t even begin to thank you and your ministry enough for introducing me to the Truth about a loving and merciful God! I have my daughter and her in-laws to thank for sharing with me “The God-Shaped Brain” as well as your website. I listen to the Bible study class lessons on my daily walk. May God continue to bless your thirst-quenching ministry!
