Why I Believe the God of Love Exists

Why I Believe the God of Love Exists

Recently, an author asked me to write a one-page summary of why I believe that God exists that will be included in her booklet on why she believes in God. I found this request to distill down the many reasons why I believe in God to a single page a useful task in helping me focus my beliefs to several core, easy to articulate, reasons. Below is my summary, I encourage you to write your own one-page summary of why you believe God exists. It may be helpful the next time you have the opportunity to share the reasons for your faith.

The Science: Non-living matter exists on physical laws, such as the laws of physics and gravity. Non-living matter and the physical laws provide the building blocks for living organisms. But life itself is built upon the law of love. Love is the principle of giving, and all living organisms operate upon it. With every breath, an exhale and inhale, you give away carbon dioxide (CO2) to the plants and the plants give oxygen back to you. If you put a plastic bag over your head and “hoard” your CO2 for yourself, then you will die. Everything that lives gives. Cease to give and one dies. Life requires the simultaneous existence of diverse forms of interdependent life that give to each other. Only our God of love could have spoken these complex, mutually sustaining, symbiotic forms of life into existence at the same time.

What we can prove scientifically, measure, and test all confirm the God of love. Science proves that order never comes on its own but requires the input of an intelligence. Science proves that life, as we know it, never comes from non-living matter, only from another living organism. Science proves that all life requires three elements: matter, energy, and coded information (DNA). Science proves that information never codes itself; coded information requires an intelligence.

The Scripture: The Bible reveals that the Creator God of love did not hold on to power but surrendered power, position, and prestige to become our Savior. He suffered and died in order to reach us with His love and provide the solution to our terminal sin-condition so that we might have eternal life (Philippians 2:5–8; John 3:16; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 2:14, 15; 2 Timothy 1:10). Love only exists in freedom. At the cross, Jesus not only provided the remedy to our terminal sin-condition, but He also proved that He is trustworthy. He showed that He would rather die than use His power to take away our freedom, even the freedom to kill Him.

The Scripture provides us meaning. We are created in the image of God, with abilities like God. We have identity; individuality; and the ability to think, act, build, and procreate. We have a purpose and a future. Our current life is not the sum totality of our existence. In Christ, we have a vision of a better life, an immortal life, in a world restored to sinless perfection, a world with no fear, no selfishness, no exploitation, sickness, pain, suffering, or death—a world where every single person loves others more than themselves.

Experience: I have felt pain in this world—the pain of loss, broken relationships, sickness, and injury. I have suffered from my own poor choices. I have felt the cruelty of selfishness, exploitation, and unkindness from others. And I have found that God’s principles heal. I have experienced the comfort, healing, restoration, and peace that come only from Jesus, from trusting Him, embracing His truth, living in harmony with His principles, practicing His methods, trusting His promises, and living in His presence. I have experienced His healing hand and know that the God of love is real and the only source of life, health, and happiness.

I believe that the God of love exists because it is scientific; because it gives life meaning, purpose, and hope; and because it is the healthiest way to be. Happiness only exists in harmony with God and the laws He has built life to operate upon.

Testimony 69

After reading your book, ‘Could It Be This Simple,’ someone was explaining Christianity in a way that made sense to me for the first time in my life. One morning, I simply prayed “I’m sorry and I love you.” As soon as I silently said that, I could literally feel God’s presence and light flood down on me from above and fill me up with love and joy. I sat there crying my eyes out, because I was so overpowered with this feeling of love and joy. It was just so incredible. I hope that more people can read this book and get a blessing from it. It’s really amazing.

I’ve been very blessed by “The God Shaped Brain” and this ministry, through video and podcast, over the last few years. It’s truly opened up my eyes more to the truth about God and the importance of that truth in the present world. The message is so inviting, freeing and enlightening and MORE people need to know about it. I believe it is the last message that can truly, not only prepare a people for salvation and translation, but vindicate the character of God.

My husband is a pastor and I listen to your lesson almost every week. Thank you for helping me in my study life and to help me love the “real” God more.

Thank you so much for everything you do! Because of all these truths, I’m excited to be with Jesus! I always pray everyday, “COME TODAY, JESUS.” Before finding C&R, I was always praying for delays, “NOT TODAY OH GOD. I AM NOT READY.” I just need to share more, talk more bout this truth, so everybody will be excited for Jesus.

Just watched watched lesson 10 in the 1st quarter 2021 bible study classs on Isaiah. I want to thank you for your intellectual spirituality; it’s not an oxymoron! From the point of view of a teacher I also enjoy seeing how much personal pleasure you clearly take in not just tasting, but feasting on God’s word – it reminds me of Jeremiah not being able to hold it in! It makes me smile that your cup is so full and overflowing that you make it to Tuesday’s lesson (on a good day). It just goes to show the richness of God’s Word.

God bless the Come and Reason Team from our church here in Great Britain.

I grew up in a prominent protestant church and had what I like to call religious anxiety. I’ve always had questions about God and Salvation that no one could seem to answer.  I didn’t know how to find resolution. During 2020, at the height of my anxiety, I fell to my knees and begged God to show me truth and light and to give me the hope that I’ve been longing for. Days later, I stumbled upon your online videos and it was like a veil was lifted and EVERYTHING made sense! For the first time in my almost 39 years of life, my religious/spiritual anxiety has lessened. I feel a sense of freedom and peace I’ve NEVER had before… and it’s all because my view of God has changed. Thank you!

I have found your Bible study class lectures to be very inspiring and useful as I prepare to teach class every other week. I subscribe to the podcast and download your notes on the weeks I teach. The audio and notes are such a great help in preparing. My own understanding of God’s character has grown as I teach the class. Commendations on the thought-provoking and well-prepared material Come and Reason provides. Personally, I get excited by the tie you make between the spiritual and mental/physical domains.

I’m a native Ghanan, but am currently in France for my master’s degree. Prior to this, during my final years at undergraduate studies in Ghana, I was introduced to your ministry and I’ve been immensely blessed by what you share, especially about the Design and Imposed Laws. God richly bless you for that.

One of the first things I did when I arrived in France was to buy all four of your books. They not only helped me, but those I shared them with. I shared the message with an atheist student and I marveled at how God worked mightily in his life. Today this person shares the Love of God with others and debunks theories of who God is not. I want to share what you present in your “Heavenly Sanctuary and Investigative Judgment” pamphlet, because the message brought rest to my soul and I live today as a healthy person.

God bless you so much and your ministry.

Testimony 31

It was very touching to hear the testimony of your class share how viewing God’s true character has changed their lives. My feelings are the same – there is so much freedom in knowing that God LOVES me – regardless of my… just, REGARDLESS! I’m still blown away by the true gospel, the fact that God is not ready to strike us when we fail. He is not arbitrary. He simply loves us and warns of the natural consequences because He can’t stand to see us suffer. I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS GOD!!!

Testimony 29

Thank you for all of your work to correct misconceptions about God’s character. So many people that my husband and I have talked to seem to be against the natural law construct and view it as “errant” and “dangerous.” Having learned more about it through your blogs and lessons, I don’t really understand why they view it that way, except that it means they have to relearn theology they have known for their entire lives. But I’m so excited to relearn this. For the past few years I have been questioning how I could trust a God who punishes arbitrarily and is full of wrath for those who don’t obey His commands. That view made me afraid to “mess up” or “not be good enough,” even within my relationship with God. I really appreciated the point you bring out about God not wanting us to serve Him because we are afraid, but because we love Him.

Your message of design law vs imperial law is so uplifting and makes so much sense- it is a game changer for me. The fact that Jesus’s death is not a big payment by an angry God is , quite frankly, a relief.

Thank you! I love listening to the Come And Reason Ministries Bible study classes and am using some of your notes to get the lessons together that I will be teaching. You always have such good quotes and Bible texts and pull things together to make good sense.

I have been blessed by your ministry. I have experienced personally, and deeply resonate with, the God of love and the beautiful picture of God’s character that you present. I have seen your seminar series on YouTube, read ‘The Journal of the Watcher’ book, used your mobile app, and also listen/study the bible study lesson with you each week. I concur with many of the thoughts and perspectives that you share. I understand your conclusions on natural laws vs imposed law and the legal/penal substitution (incorrect diagnosis). This makes perfect sense to me.

Bless you for all you do.

I would love to have a copy of “Healing the Mind” DVDs to have in my therapy office. I enjoy having clients check out materials to enhance their therapy experience. I have sat under Dr. Jennings’ teaching at an American Association of Christian Counselors convention and respect his work greatly.
