Vatican Lists “New Sins”

This week I read the following headline from Reuters, “Vatican lists ‘new sins,’ including pollution.” The Vatican also included as new sins genetic manipulation and stem cell research.

What do you think about the idea that sins can be catalogued? That an earthly organization can determine sin? Do you find any problem with this premise? Do you see any dangers? If sin is determined by some organization, then what qualifies as sin today might not be sin tomorrow.  Does that trouble you? Do you believe God operates like this?

Unfortunately, far too many people do see God in this way, a powerful being who makes up rules to impose on His creation and if we break those rules it is called sin and God is required to inflict punishment in order to be just. But such an idea is a gross mischaracterization of God. The truth about God is seen in Jesus who said that if we have seen Him, we have seen the Father. And Jesus said He did not come to be served but to serve. Jesus came to give, give, give, to love without measure. This is the Father lived out for our eyes to see.

God’s government is not based on arbitrary rules set up by a powerful potentate but is based on selfless love, other-centered giving, true beneficence. 1 Corinthians 13 states “love is not self seeking.” The law of love is a principle that emanates from the character of God and all life in the universe is created to operate on this principle. Violations of this law of love, this circle of beneficence naturally result in death, unless God intervenes to heal and restore. Conversely, harmony with the law of love is harmony with God and results in health and happiness. Thus Paul states in Romans 13:8, “Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” Love cannot be commanded, love cannot be codified, and love certainly doesn’t change with time.

God is longing for the day we will see the truth of His character of love, the truth of who He is as revealed by Jesus, the truth that He is not an arbitrary Being codifying behavior and imposing His will. He is longing for the day we will trust Him enough to open our hearts and minds to Him, then He will restore in us His law of love (Hebrews 8:10). And when that happens, well, then He will come and take us to be with Him.

Your unique way in spreading the truth is what we all need today. Most of us don’t recognize the contamination coming from all the lies and selfishness in the world. Because of our fear of death, we forgot how to live. Lies left and right. I was losing hope and faith, because of so many ideas that are always contradicting each other – so many questions answered by other, more complicated, questions – until I found your channel on YouTube.

I was born [into the church], then I left it for many years. 10 years ago, I came back, but I could not take the hypocrisy and the lack of answers to the missing pieces. I have been watching you for many years and have learned to love God with all my heart. I was raised by a loving Christian mother that had been lied to about who God really was, so our religious upbringing was hell fire and damnation. As soon as I was old enough and moved out, I not only left the church, I ran as fast as I could to get away from it. Sad to say, it wasn’t until the past couple of years that I learned and understand who my Father really is and how much He loves me. I understand God’s Design Laws (which make sense) and when I’m teaching my church Bible study class, I’m able to really put to use the things I’ve been learning and Holy Spirit is leading. I’m a native Ghanan, but am currently in France for my master’s degree. Prior to this, during my final years at undergraduate studies in Ghana, I was introduced to your ministry and I’ve been immensely blessed by what you share, especially about the Design and Imposed Laws. God richly bless you for that.

One of the first things I did when I arrived in France was to buy all four of your books. They not only helped me, but those I shared them with. I shared the message with an atheist student and I marveled at how God worked mightily in his life. Today this person shares the Love of God with others and debunks theories of who God is not. I want to share what you present in your “Heavenly Sanctuary and Investigative Judgment” pamphlet, because the message brought rest to my soul and I live today as a healthy person.
