The God-Shaped Brain: How Changing Your View of God Transforms Your Life was released by Intervarsity Press in late April 2013. Since its release it has been extremely well received by people across a wide variety of backgrounds and traditions and has sold out of its first two printings and is already into its third printing.

We have been receiving emails from around the world from people whose lives have been transformed by seeing God in a new light. Here is a portion of one recent email from a young lady in Australia:

God lead me to your book The God-Shaped Brain while I was searching for another book about the brain and then to your interview about your book on HeartWise Ministries. This way I found out about your ministry and am now devouring the webcasts of your Bible studies. I have been so greatly blessed and I thank God so much for your courage to speak the Truth in love no matter what. When I listen to you speak I can feel my PFC [prefrontal cortex] fire and grow. I soak up the Truth like a sponge.

Growing up as a 4th generation SDA I learned about a God who was distant and only listened to you when you did right. I think you get the idea. The whole thing just didn’t make real sense to me. Why would God create us and then try to destroy us? I was too afraid though to ask controversial questions or to investigate further. I left the church for a while because there was not much that was desirable or helpful to me.

When I think back I always had the conviction deep down in my heart that God was totally different to the way I had learned about Him. I longed to believe in a God who loved me no matter what and a God who would do everything to save me. I just had no stable personal relationship with Him and didn’t really know how to have one. But God led me and drew me closer to Him and over the last few months I have heard Him speak to me personally and actually God has personally told me many of the things I hear you say in SS and I know it is the Truth. When I started listening to you speak and heard you talk about a God of love who does not destroy and whose love burns like a fire it took me back to a morning devotion I had with God where He told me exactly the same thing.

Listening to you contrast the two opposing systems (laws) and digging deep to unearth the hidden treasures in the Bible makes me so incredibly happy and I feel very blessed to be part of your Bible Study Group although I

live far away. I am just so excited that there is a group of people that is spreading the Truth about the character of God and it saddens me how few realise what our Father in Heaven is really like. I pray that God uses me to reflect His perfect love to others and makes me more and more like Jesus.
