Response to Adventist Today Article

Response to Adventist Today Article

This morning a friend and online member of our class emailed a link to an article on Adventist Today (AT) entitled “Is comeandreason.com Reasonable on COVID and Vaccines?”

As I believe this article misrepresents what I have been teaching, I posted a response on their Facebook page. However, some have not been able to view it, so I am posting it here:

Sadly, you have missed the central and most important issue that I have been teaching on this topic and that is the Great Controversy and the two antagonistic principles at war between God’s government and Satan’s that enter into every phase of human existence (Education 190). It is the methods, principles and means we embrace in how we act and treat others that develops our minds, hearts, characters that is my central concern.

COVID is a worldwide issue and every person must decide how they will deal with it personally, but also how they will treat others—especially those who don’t agree with them.

Will we, in the treatment of others, use God’s methods, or allow fear to control our actions and embrace the methods of God’s enemy? The methods we choose solidify our characters by action into either more godliness or more beastliness.

We are to present our bodies as living sacrifices holy and pleasing to the Lord, this is an act of spiritual worship (Romans 12:1). I cannot decide for another person how they are to honor God with their body, whether they should eat a vegetarian diet or not. Neither can I decide for another person what medical treatments they should get—especially if they are healthy and at low risk from a disease.

“In matters of conscience the soul must be left untrammeled. No one is to control another’s mind, to judge for another, or to prescribe his duty. God gives to every soul freedom to think, and to follow his own convictions. “Every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” No one has a right to merge his own individuality in that of another. In all matters where principle is involved, “let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.” Romans 14:12, 5. In Christ’s kingdom there is no lordly oppression, no compulsion of manner. The angels of heaven do not come to the earth to rule, and to exact homage, but as messengers of mercy, to co-operate with men in uplifting humanity.” DA 550.6

“Compelling power is found only under Satan’s government. The Lord’s principles are not of this order. His authority rests upon goodness, mercy, and love; and the presentation of these principles is the means to be used. God’s government is moral, and truth and love are to be the prevailing power.” DA 759.1

When is it okay to use the power of the state, of commerce, of travel, of employment, to compel and coerce people to take actions that violate their conscience?

Is it okay to fine people, restrict their travel, imprison, or burn people at the stake for teaching heresy as in the Dark Ages—after all the church needed to “save lives” from not just temporal loss but eternal loss and burning in hell—was it okay if their motives were to save lives?

“In striking contrast to the wrong and oppression so universally practised were the mission and work of Christ. Earthly kingdoms are established and upheld by physical force, but this was not to be the foundation of the Messiah’s kingdom. In the establishment of his government no carnal weapons were to be used, no coercion practised; no attempt would be made to force the consciences of men. These are the principles used by the prince of darkness for the government of his kingdom. His agents are actively at work, seeking in their human independence to enact laws which are in direct contrast to Christ’s mercy and loving-kindness.

“Prophecy has plainly stated the nature of Christ’s kingdom. He planned a government which would use no force; his subjects would know no oppression. The symbols of earthly governments are wild beasts, but in the kingdom of Christ, men are called upon to behold, not a ferocious beast, but the Lamb of God”
{RH, August 18, 1896}

Today, people are being placed in positions to decide in their hearts and minds whether to join with the state, the beastly powers of this world, to compel and coerce others. Each person is deciding in their mind what issue makes it okay to do this to another or not. And that decision determines their character and ultimately who they are loyal to.

The final deception will not be to bow down in a Satanic cult temple, but to take Satan’s methods into the heart in how we treat others—the argument will be: as long as we are “saving lives” it is okay to use the methods of God’s enemy.

My view is that we cannot win God’s cause by using Satan’s methods. We win by presenting the truth in love and leaving others free.

Getting the vaccine or not getting the vaccine is irrelevant to the real issues at play, the real issues are the character we develop in dealing with others and the methods we are willing to embrace in how we advance what we believe is right.

My arguments have not been “don’t get the vaccine” I have said if you believe it is right for you, then get it. My arguments have been against the methods employed to compel and coerce those not convinced that the benefit outweighs the risks in their circumstance. It is disappointing that so many people, including Christian medical professionals, are being dominated by fear to employ methods contrary to the kingdom of God.

It is also disappointing that your article failed to recognize the main point of my presentations and articles—the methods and principles we use in treating others. Truth, love and freedom!

Addendum:

The Adventist Today Author, added an addendum, after my response above. In case some have trouble finding my response on their Facebook page, I am posting it here.

If you think the issue before us is a viral pandemic threatening the lives of the majority of people, then you have seriously missed what is transpiring. The real issue happening right now is not about a virus nor about a vaccine, it is about power, control, the overthrow of liberty, the reshaping of society, and the rise of satanic forces. The virus is being used as an opportunity to incite fear, in order to manipulate and justify the violations of liberty.

People right now are being conditioned to accept methods of censorship, coercion, restriction of the free exercise of assembly, religion, and speech. People are being conditioned to justify the withholding of medical care (Dr. in Miami announces she won’t care for the unvaccinated), and some clergy are refusing communion to the unvaccinated. Why do they say they are doing this? Because the unvaccinated, they argue, are hurting people, are a danger to others—their immune status doesn’t matter, recovered individuals with natural immunity are not considered, just force the jab.

Just step back and think about what is happening—we as physicians never deny care, it doesn’t matter if the person is a murderer, rapist, molester, or smoker who keeps smoking through their trach after every ICU ventilator stay. If someone needs care, we provide it—that is the ethic of the physician.

But the perversity of the COVID politic is infecting minds, so that people are believing it is righteous to compel, coerce, force, withhold care, and withhold communion, for what? A medical treatment with no long-term safety data? Anyone who claims there is long-term safety data is lying. For a treatment whose effectiveness falls with every mutation?

Where is the respect for individual decision making? Where is the recognition that vaccines are not the only way to fight the virus? Where is the recognition that just because someone doesn’t want this vaccine doesn’t mean they are not working to stay healthy and prevent the spread in other ways.

Good arguments, based on published studies, can be made that the traditional SDA lifestyle (plant-based diet, sunshine, fresh air, etc.) provides better protection from COVID (lower infection rates and lower rates of bad outcome) than the vaccines. Good comparator studies need to be done to confirm this, but to suggest people who don’t want the vaccine are not scientific or don’t care about others is a lie.

What is happening now is an assault on our liberties and way of life, the principles of God’s kingdom are being attacked by forces that care only for power and control, not the health of the people.

If the government really wanted to stop the spread of COVID, then they would not ship tens of thousands of illegal immigrants, infected with COVID, all over the country—at tax payer expense.

If the government really believed the vaccines worked, then Biden wouldn’t have said, “we need to protect the vaccinated from the unvaccinated.”

If the government really believed vaccines were necessary to stop the spread of COVID, then they wouldn’t exempt over 600,000 postal workers and illegal immigrants who are not required to be vaccinated.

Finally, my blog that you referenced was primarily about medical ethics, the loss of independent decision-making, and willingness to mandate and coerce, rather than leave people free.

Testimony 64

I’ve been reading the bible and walking with Jesus since I was around 16. I’m 42 now. I’ve mostly been alone in my walk although I went to several churches in different denominations. For the past 3 years God has been showing me His character of agape. It’s been a blessing and changed how I view God and my walk with Jesus. About a year ago I came across the power of love and the principles of design law. These teachings changed how I read scripture and have been such a beautiful blessing. I’m very excited and grateful for these truths. We share these truths of agape, design law and the reality of the principles of the two trees in the garden of Eden with people on Facebook and YouTube. People all over are learning to trust God and His agape design law which makes life possible. Thank you for everything you shared with me. May God continue to bless your ministry and lives.

Testimony 15

I have been sharing Come And Reason Ministries Bible study lessons with several folk. You have such a beautiful view of the plan of salvation. If we had this message preached when I was young, my generation would still all be in church.

Testimony 46

Over the past couple of years God has been expanding my view of Himself and His character. Along my approximately 40-year journey, I have often had questions, but was hesitant to voice these and step outside the traditionally accepted thinking, for fear of admitting that I may in fact be eternally lost. In the recesses of my thinking has been the thought – if one blindly accepts (which is widely regarded as “real faith”) and does not question, is this really ‘truth?’ I often find it challenging to grapple with very theological ‘speak,’ but Dr. Jennings has a real gift of explaining spiritual concepts with clear practical examples. The weekly discussions are growing my Christian experience and slowly changing my view of how to live as a child of God in today’s complex world. Finally the whole Old Testament sanctuary teaching moved in my mind from fantasy to reality!

I am absolutly on fire with the message at Come and Reason! I can’t get enough! I’ve read your book, blog, and articles. I’ve listened to your Bible study podcasts, your radio show, and your series – all excellent! It wasn’t until the past couple of years that I have I like I’m becoming “healthy,” with more to share with others than just beasts and commandments! I used to be a Bible worker and preached when the pastors were gone until I had had enough. I didnt realize at the time what the problem was, but i know now… the message wasn’t properly focused. Now my flame is rekindled. All of your little examples are so perfect in explaining something “complicated” and making it easily understood! Now I’m trying to shape it into a life changing evangelistic series! Thank you!

Testimony 51

I Love This Ministry!!!!!!! I see first hand how this message is desperately needed, how erroneous beliefs about God and His Character negatively affect humanity at every level. I thank God for your ministry, as I was searching on my own and was discovering some of your same beliefs and was blown away when I found your ministry. I know you hear it all the time, but it is truly life changing. May God continue to reveal His Will to you and Bless you!

Testimony 5

We listen to your bible studies lessons in our class in Montana. You actually were the main reason I decided to get a laptop, so I can go to your site and listen, read, learn, and print the class notes. I am so grateful to learn the correct view of God and his character. Now, to just have others have an interest in knowing, so I can share it with them. Good thoughts your way.

R. N., MT, USA

Testimony 2

I continue to enjoy your lessons every week. The more that I research your conclusions, the more I am convinced that the Holy Spirit has lead you to distill out the essence of human redemption. Thank you for your courageous stand for the truth.

Testimony 42

I am just writing to say that I have been so blessed by the teachings of Come And Reason Minitries recently. I watched last week’s bible study lesson on Youtube and am thankful that the error in the printed lesson guide you use was pointed out and this week’s study was of equal benefit, if not more so. My understanding of God’s nature has been very confused of late and I am so grateful for clarity in this matter. I have never really fully understood previously how a good God can cause bad things to happen and now I realise that He doesn’t, it’s a natural consequence of sin. May the almighty Father and His Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, continue to bless your ministry.

Testimony 27

Your teachings about our heavenly Father have changed my life. Thank you sooooooo very very much! I know He’s doing some serious healing in my heart and life and I look forward to each new day to learn something new about Him and to just hear you speak about Him. Thank you, forever.

Testimony 3

My husband is a pastor and I listen to your lesson almost every week. Thank you for helping me in my study life and to help me love the “real” God more.

Testimony 32

The message [of Come And Reason Ministries is] for all Christians (and those who may become Christians) and not just Adventists or any other group. It is difficult to imagine why any [anyone] with intellectual and spiritual honesty could find fault with the way you explained the healing substitution concepts and the truth about God’s character, though I know some will reject and criticize. On behalf of those in our group near Tacoma, WA, thank you and your staff for all of the hard work and for sharing the Gospel in this manner. God’s message of healing love will be carried to the whole world and then Jesus will come – He promised it.

Terry U., Tacoma, WA, USA

Testimony 56

I cannot thank you enough for opening my understanding to the beautiful truth of God’s Law of Love and how it applies to everything. I have been a Christian for over forty years, but I feel like I am only now seeing with my eyes open. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!

Testimony 50

After coming into contact with Come And Reason Ministries, I can finally say that many of my unanswered questions have fallen into place. I discovered that my view of God’s Law was “imposed laws and rules” with “imposed punishments” and that this was the major culprit of my many unanswered questions. Thanks be to God for using you and those around you to help us who have struggled with this “infection” of thought. I have now rejected the “imposed law” concept to fully embrace “Design Law”… to look thru “Design Law,” instead of “imposed law,” is a relief.

Viliami L., Australia

Testimony 72

I am blown away by the truth that you present. God’s Design Law makes so much sense! You have validated my impression that, if God is love, He would not kill those who don’t want to know him. If God gives us choice, then how can He destroy us if our choice is not to follow him. Thank you for opening my eyes and heart to the pure love of God seen through Jesus. The love I now have for Jesus is deeper and free from condemnation. My heart has been opened to love others as Jesus loves me. May God continue to bless your God-given insight into His word and your ministry. The truth has set me free!

Testimony 71

When I was 9 years old, I remember setting at our devotional table with a hunger and thirst for God that wanted more, deeper, BETTER. I can remember literally crying and pounding on the table, “I know these teachers didn’t mean to give us error. They taught what THEY had been TAUGHT, but didn’t ANYBODY READ THE BOOK?!?!?” It mattered to me then. It mattered to me as a teenager. It matters now as I teach bible classes. It didn’t have to be so hard as I watched so many give up and lay God’s great plan and gift of salvation aside as being “impossible.” Then, a friend sent me a link to Come And Reason’s website. I grew excited. YES! FINALLY! Then another friend told me to stay away, saying her son had just broken up with a girl because she was involved with Come And Reason and that “Tim Jennings preaches a false gospel.” But, AFTER many years of developing an authentic and, dare I say FUN relationship with Jesus, through the Holy Spirit I see this message has been around a LONG time, since the apostle Paul, Ellen White, Graham Maxwell, Ray Foucher, and yourself (though I admit, you’ve made me back up, rewind and replay the clips, and get out my well-worn Bible on a few things.) I’m so thankful I have found LIGHT during these DARK days. I am not alone.
