God’s Wisdom and Man’s Foolishness in the World Today

God’s Wisdom and Man’s Foolishness in the World Today

Today I ask what the apostle Paul did two thousand years ago:

Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? (1 Corinthians 1:20 NIV84).

The professors, scholars, doctors, media pundits, and world leaders of today tell us that there is no God, that the Bible is outdated, that to believe in a loving Creator is foolish—but “the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom” (1 Corinthians 1:25 NIV84).

God’s wisdom is the voice of reality; it cries out from every street corner to observe, to see, to understand how the Creator built life to function and to witness the results of rejecting Him and His methods for life. God’s wisdom enlightens the mind to comprehend cause and effect; one not only sees the chaos but understands the cause of it—and that only Jesus and the methods of truth, love, and freedom are the solution.

Wisdom calls aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the public squares; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out, in the gateways of the city she makes her speech: “How long will you simple ones love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge?” (Proverbs 1:20–22 NIV84).

God’s wisdom leads us to see the difference between reality and fantasy, to discern what works from what doesn’t. God’s wisdom leads us out of chaos to order, out of fear to love, out of conflict to peace, out of death to life. His wisdom exposes the foolishness of the so-called wisdom of this world, of listening to the so-called “experts” in our society who deny Him and His laws. But these “simple ones,” those who don’t understand reality, they mock God, make fun of truth, hate objective facts, pretend there isn’t a God, and believe what the “authorities” tell them.

“Since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the LORD, since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke, they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes. For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm” (Proverbs 1:29–33 NIV84).

Look at what is happening in the world today: broken families, rising crime, economic distress, increasing alcohol and drug problems, a mental-health crisis as never before seen. It is the communities with the highest level of rejecting God and His principles—whose leaders advance the principles of humanism, liberalism, socialism—that have the greatest chaos, homelessness, crime, failing schools, and breakdown of social order. God permits this to happen to arouse people to understand reality; when people reject God’s principles, He respects their choice, and the Holy Spirit withdraws, and the inevitable result is that evil increases.

If we want to solve the problems in society today, we must reject the wisdom of the godless world. We must return to understanding reality in the way our Creator has designed it to function.

For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. … Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you. Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse, who leave the straight paths to walk in dark ways, who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil, whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways (Proverbs 2:6, 9–15 NIV84).

If you want wisdom, you must listen to the Lord. Following Jesus will save you from being deceived by those leaders who deny God, who deny the principles of the Bible, who advance a godless worldview and agenda for society. God’s wisdom will save you from the so-called wisdom of this world. And what is the wisdom of this world, the wisdom that is perverse and leads men from light to darkness?

The woman Folly is loud; she is undisciplined and without knowledge. She sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, calling out to those who pass by, who go straight on their way. “Let all who are simple come in here!” she says to those who lack judgment. “Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!” But little do they know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of the grave (Proverbs 9:13–18 NIV84).

Have you heard certain government leaders and media pundits who do not uplift our Creator justifying mass shoplifting, refusing to prosecute blatant crimes, supporting riots and property destruction as healthy forms of voicing one’s concerns, proclaiming that police are the source of violence and that if we got rid of law enforcement, society would be less violent? And what are many of these leaders doing? They are refusing to hold the wicked accountable.

Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law resist them (Proverbs 28:4 NIV84).

It is a certainty that in this sinful world, if people close their hearts to God, then sin will rise, exploitation of others will increase, and society will decay. When we take God’s principles and truths out of our schools, homes, and communities, the unavoidable result is the collapse of social order, and this, if not corrected, will lead to a backlash of increased authoritarianism and loss of liberty in attempts to restore order. Understand this clearly: If people do not have God in their heart, such that they are mature and have self-control, the only way to have order in society is with extreme external governmental control—like the kind we see in China and North Korea. John Adams, second President of the United States and co-author of the Declaration of Independence, understanding this reality, wrote: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

But when those who understand God’s wisdom arise to protest the foolishness that we are seeing from those who refuse to uplift our Creator, how are they treated?

Whoever corrects a mocker invites insult; whoever rebukes a wicked man incurs abuse. Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man and he will love you (Proverbs 9:7, 8 NIV84).

The foolish reject God’s wisdom; they hate the voice of reason, the reproof of the righteous, the call to order, the setting of boundaries, the expectations of personal responsibility, the call for accountability—making decisions based on fact, truth, reality, and reason. The foolish claim that a man can become to a woman and fairly compete in female athletic events. The fool denies their own sinful state and claims it is because of others that they rape, steal, or murder—that it is society’s fault. The foolish claim that if we would only get rid of the police, of law enforcement, of personal accountability, that if we would only make decisions based on something other than ability, qualifications, merit, or skill, then our communities would improve. Such worldly wisdom is truly foolish.

It is only the godly, those who respect our Creator, who value God’s Word, who embrace and apply His truths to their lives who are wise:

Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding (Proverbs 9:9, 10 NIV84).

Without Jesus, without God, in our hearts, families, and communities, there is no possibility of improving what’s happening in our society. It is only those who admire and respect our Creator, who value His methods, and seek to honor and uplift His principles that have the wisdom to make healthy decisions. God’s wisdom is not found in earthly governments—it is found in Jesus, in the living and written Word of God. We must reject the so-called wisdom of this age; we must stop listening to the so-called experts who deny God. We must return to the wisdom of God, unplug from the philosophy of this godless world, get our children into Christian schools, return to church, join a Bible study, have personal daily devotional time with Jesus, study God’s Word for ourselves, and then apply God’s methods of truth, love, and freedom to our lives. We must live out the wisdom of God!

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:3–6 NIV84).

Testimony 69

After reading your book, ‘Could It Be This Simple,’ someone was explaining Christianity in a way that made sense to me for the first time in my life. One morning, I simply prayed “I’m sorry and I love you.” As soon as I silently said that, I could literally feel God’s presence and light flood down on me from above and fill me up with love and joy. I sat there crying my eyes out, because I was so overpowered with this feeling of love and joy. It was just so incredible. I hope that more people can read this book and get a blessing from it. It’s really amazing.

It was very touching to hear the testimony of your class share how viewing God’s true character has changed their lives. My feelings are the same – there is so much freedom in knowing that God LOVES me – regardless of my… just, REGARDLESS! I’m still blown away by the true gospel, the fact that God is not ready to strike us when we fail. He is not arbitrary. He simply loves us and warns of the natural consequences because He can’t stand to see us suffer. I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS GOD!!!

When I was 9 years old, I remember setting at our devotional table with a hunger and thirst for God that wanted more, deeper, BETTER. I can remember literally crying and pounding on the table, “I know these teachers didn’t mean to give us error. They taught what THEY had been TAUGHT, but didn’t ANYBODY READ THE BOOK?!?!?” It mattered to me then. It mattered to me as a teenager. It matters now as I teach bible classes. It didn’t have to be so hard as I watched so many give up and lay God’s great plan and gift of salvation aside as being “impossible.” Then, a friend sent me a link to Come And Reason’s website. I grew excited. YES! FINALLY! Then another friend told me to stay away, saying her son had just broken up with a girl because she was involved with Come And Reason and that “Tim Jennings preaches a false gospel.” But, AFTER many years of developing an authentic and, dare I say FUN relationship with Jesus, through the Holy Spirit I see this message has been around a LONG time, since the apostle Paul, Ellen White, Graham Maxwell, Ray Foucher, and yourself (though I admit, you’ve made me back up, rewind and replay the clips, and get out my well-worn Bible on a few things.) I’m so thankful I have found LIGHT during these DARK days. I am not alone.

I was born [into the church], then I left it for many years. 10 years ago, I came back, but I could not take the hypocrisy and the lack of answers to the missing pieces. I struggled, but I did not abandon my commitment to know the truth. God is leading me to the simple understanding of his relevance and I am relearning what the church taught me as a youth… that he loves me, that he has led me to a knowledge of him such as I have never known. He is using Dr. Jennings to connect the dots that are now so apparent and hiding in plain sight!

I am just writing to say that I have been so blessed by the teachings of Come And Reason Minitries recently. I watched last week’s bible study lesson on Youtube and am thankful that the error in the printed lesson guide you use was pointed out and this week’s study was of equal benefit, if not more so. My understanding of God’s nature has been very confused of late and I am so grateful for clarity in this matter. I have never really fully understood previously how a good God can cause bad things to happen and now I realise that He doesn’t, it’s a natural consequence of sin. May the almighty Father and His Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, continue to bless your ministry.

I got the book “Could It Be This Simple?” a few months ago and the reading was wonderful and I was fascinated. I lent the book to a friend at work. She is having a difficult time and the book is helping her to find Jesus and I found this very exciting. She has asked me questions and I can see her life changing.

Testimony 24

I wanted to thank you very much for presenting your understanding of God. I’ve always been troubled by this question: Why did Jesus have to die? Since my conversion I understood that The Father & Jesus are one, I did not have issues with that. But was there not any other way to save us than for Jesus to die? I guess I actually had a question about God – if He is so wise, how come He did not find another way? I did not see the real ‘beauty’  in the cross. Only when you explained the picture in the medical context, Jesus providing medicine for my selfishness, have I started to finally ‘see the light’. Thank you so much. Your seminar, “Healing the Mind,” are absolutely marvelous & have shared them with my family and many other people, including colleagues at work. Thanks, thanks, thanks. May God bless you abundantly in your ministry.

Two years ago I stumbled upon your book, “Could It Be This Simple,” and then found “The God-Shaped Brain” videos on YouTube, your bible study class, and the ‘Come And Reason’ mobile app. I shared your book with a friend and after nine months of showing love, patience, and kindness this person has been changed by the love of God, too. The same love that healed me, I now express to other women in tangible ways, such as to a Baptist woman with high anxiety and childhood trauma. She was extremely happy and relieved when I shared about the so-called “judgment of God” and burning in hell. She had no desire to serve a God that was so harsh. I have repeated the phrase dozens of times to her. “What we believe has power over us, but we have power over what we believe…”

This message that you are sharing has changed my life. I will continue to serve other women and bring this message of God’s healing love to their lives by sharing your books, YouTube videos, and The Remedy Bible app. Keep up the good work. Don’t be discouraged. God is doing a mighty work in and through this ministry!

Testimony 29

Thank you for all of your work to correct misconceptions about God’s character. So many people that my husband and I have talked to seem to be against the natural law construct and view it as “errant” and “dangerous.” Having learned more about it through your blogs and lessons, I don’t really understand why they view it that way, except that it means they have to relearn theology they have known for their entire lives. But I’m so excited to relearn this. For the past few years I have been questioning how I could trust a God who punishes arbitrarily and is full of wrath for those who don’t obey His commands. That view made me afraid to “mess up” or “not be good enough,” even within my relationship with God. I really appreciated the point you bring out about God not wanting us to serve Him because we are afraid, but because we love Him.

Testimony 54

I had a lot of pressure, as a pastor’s kid, to conform and be “good.” I was good at being “good.” I thought my life was going along well until it all started falling apart and I could not figure out why! In my search for “why is this happening to me, God?” I came across your book, “Could it be this Simple,” and God started revealing to me the many distortions I held about His character, His principles, and how He has designed His universe to operate. I remember thinking, “Wow, I have had this all backwards.” I was happy and angry all at the same time. Happy to have the light of truth break through the darkness, revealing a wonderful, beautiful way of understanding God and His plan for His children, and angry, because I felt deceived and cheated by the church, my family, and myself!

My heart thrills when I listen to your bible study lessons. Literally I have gone from death to life. It is a journey I look forward to every day, as God reveals areas this distortion affects. Praise GOD! I will ever be grateful to God for this ministry and your cooperation with the Spirit!

Testimony 61

I grew up in a prominent protestant church and had what I like to call religious anxiety. I’ve always had questions about God and Salvation that no one could seem to answer.  I didn’t know how to find resolution. During 2020, at the height of my anxiety, I fell to my knees and begged God to show me truth and light and to give me the hope that I’ve been longing for. Days later, I stumbled upon your online videos and it was like a veil was lifted and EVERYTHING made sense! For the first time in my almost 39 years of life, my religious/spiritual anxiety has lessened. I feel a sense of freedom and peace I’ve NEVER had before… and it’s all because my view of God has changed. Thank you!

I personally download and listen to each of Come And Reason Ministries Bible study class lessons and PDF study notes to use when teaching my class. Really appreciate the class especially when Dr. Jennings is teaching. Thank God there are persons like him doing His work and traveling to share His beliefs.

Testimony 34

I was introduced to Come and Reason Ministries by accident, via a passing comment made in a bible study class we were visiting. I checked this website out and my life was changed. The understanding of the truth of God’s character, and how we apply it, is so right. The tricky part is consistently applying which “lens” to look through. As I began to understand, I started sharing the basics of this understanding with a discussion group I was leading and, suddenly, a lot of things started to make sense that never used to. At the same time, I enjoyed an amazing opportunity. I was able to conduct a full bible study at WORK! What an amazing experience! It is such a joy to share the truth about God and to share how it all fits in the war between God and Satan. So many people benefit when we have a correct understanding about how God works and who He really is! Thank you for this transformational understanding. Keep up the good work! God Bless you!
