“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 NKJV, emphasis mine).
God did not loan Jesus to humanity. Jesus did not merely appear as a human being, like the time He visited with Abraham (Genesis 18:16-17). The Son of God became human!
His name will be called “‘Immanuel’—which means, ‘God with us’” (Matthew 1:23 NIV84).
God came down from heaven to be with us, not for just 33 years, but Jesus, God the Son, is with us for all eternity!
“Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: ‘Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me’” (Hebrews 10:5 NIV84).
“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6 NKJV, emphasis mine).
God gave us His Son to become a real human being, with human “flesh and blood, he too shared in [our] humanity” (Hebrews 2:14 NIV84). And Jesus retains His humanity for all eternity future so that we might know that God is with us, that God is for us, that God is not ashamed of us:
Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers (Hebrews 2:11 NIV84, emphasis mine).
Through all eternity future, we sinners, saved by grace, are not second-class citizens in heaven; we are not viewed as criminals on parole. Through Jesus’ sacrifice, through His becoming a real human being, our species is closer to God than if Adam had not sinned. Through Jesus, humanity is elevated and exalted to a higher station and a closer relationship with God than Adam in his innocence could have known. Jesus, God the Son, is now fully human, and through Him, a human being now reigns on high, a human being now sits upon the throne, a human being now governs the cosmos (Isaiah 9:6)—and this amazing God of love is not ashamed to be part of our family!
And through Jesus, who is not only the Son of God but also is the Son of Man—the descendant of Adam, a member of our human family, on this planet, where Satan planted his banner, where the evil one usurped Adam’s dominion, where sin and evil have flourished, marring and obscuring the beauty of God’s creation, the only place in the universe where sin has abounded—God’s grace abounds all the more, as Jesus not only became human, not only defeated Satan, not only redeemed humanity, but He will also move the capital of God’s government to Earth and for all eternity future will reign from this planet (Revelation 21:2-3)!
Be in awe, stand amazed, let your heart be humbled in adoration and love, for our Creator God is not ashamed of us and will never be ashamed of us—He loves us and longs only to heal us from all sin, all defect, all heartache and injury! He longs to take away every fear, cleanse us from all guilt, shame, and sin; remove every shortcoming; and restore us to Christlikeness in all things.
God is with us!
“For those God foreknew” would receive His love and open their hearts in trust to Him “he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. … What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? … Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? … No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:29–39 NIV84, emphasis mine).
Rejoice, O heavens! Be amazed, O Earth, for God is with us—and we can choose to be with Him!
