God Sacrificed Jesus So That We Can Live Victoriously

God Sacrificed Jesus So That We Can Live Victoriously

God did not make the infinite sacrifice of sending Jesus to take upon Himself our sin and to suffer the most grotesque treatment, shameful rejection, horrible abuse, and disgraceful death in order to secure for us the privilege of breaking His law in this life and the future eternal life. It is a lie of Satan that Jesus died so that we could be saved in sin. Jesus died so that we can be saved from sin. As John the Baptist said, Jesus came to “take away the sin of the world” (John 1:29), not to take away the punishment of God for our sins.

Jesus came so that we might have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10), and life in God’s universe is built to operate upon His design laws for life, the protocols the Creator built for the function and operation of all living systems and organisms in His universe. Jesus came to restore His living law of love into humanity; to write His law into our hearts and minds (Hebrews 8:10); to restore sinners to rightness with God; to cleanse our hearts and minds; to heal us; to renew us; to remove fear, shame, guilt, and distrust; and to restore us to right, whole, and pure living in harmony with God—all of this is known as righteousness.

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV84, emphasis mine).

It is a lie of Satan that Jesus died so that we can continue to break God’s law. It is a lie of Satan that Jesus’ death was the means to do away with God’s law, to set it aside, to somehow pay a penalty so that it isn’t applicable in our lives any longer.

And these lies of Satan are rooted in the main lie about God’s law—that His law functions like human law, imposed rules that require inflicted punishment, a law that is separate from the actual function of life itself. In this false view, the sacrifice of Jesus is seen as a legal payment to the ruling authority that takes away the punishment for sin rather than taking away the sinfulness in us. This false human-law model results in the theology that teaches that when we claim the legal payment of Jesus’ death to God or God’s law, instead of becoming the righteousness of God as Scripture teaches, we are legally accounted as righteous even though we remain unrighteous. This false legal view of salvation has deceived billions into a hopeless religion of recurring cycles of sin followed by guilt, shame, fear of punishment, desperate confession, pleas for forgiveness, and various forms of rituals, penance, and fear-based living—a form of godliness but with no power to live victoriously (2 Timothy 3:5).

When we return to the worship of God as Creator and realize that His laws are the laws upon which life and health are built to operate, we understand that it is sin that injures us, harms us, separates us from God, and that results in our ruin and death unless our loving Creator intervenes to remove the sin and restore us to harmony with Him by writing His living law of love into our hearts and minds. All the metaphors of Scripture teach that the action point of the plan of salvation, where God must make a change in order to save sinners, is not in heaven, is not in God’s heart, is not in a courtroom or legal registry—but is in the heart, mind, and character of the sinner:

  • We become children of God when we are reborn, not when God receives a legal payment (John 1:13).
  • We are reconciled to God when we die to sin and rise to a new life in Christ, not when God gives up a demand for vengeance due to the pleas from His Son (Romans 7:6).
  • We move from death to life when our hearts are circumcised by the Holy Spirit, not when a legal pardon is registered in a heavenly tribunal (Romans 2:29).
  • We become like Jesus when our hard, stony hearts are replaced with tender, loving ones, not when human blood is applied in a legal registry in heaven (Ezekiel 36:26).
  • We become part of the family of God when we receive a new heart and right spirit, not when an adoption certificate is registered in a cosmic court (Psalm 51:10).
  • Our old sinful self disappears and the new person who lives to love others comes forth when we enter into a trust relationship with Christ, not when Jesus does something to influence His Father (2 Corinthians 5:17).
  • We are set right with God when He writes His living law upon our hearts and minds, not when legal adjustments are made in parchments (Hebrews 8:10).

We cannot have good health while violating the laws of health. Since God’s laws are the laws of life, health, and happiness, it is only by being in harmony with God, being reconciled to our loving Creator, trusting Him and allowing His Spirit to write His living law of love into our inmost being, that we can be healthy—eternally healthy. It is only by receiving Jesus into our hearts and having His law written into us that we receive life and are enabled to live abundantly.

“This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:2–4 NIV84).

It is not burdensome to live in harmony with the laws of health. It is burdensome to break them, for doing so results in disease and disability. It is the violation of God’s laws, including His moral laws, that causes soul wounds, guilt, shame, fear, and selfishness. There is no rest, no peace, no joy, no health, and no happiness for the one who persists in sin. Life and health are found only in reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ and having His law of life restored within us. Then, in that trust relationship, we are empowered with new motives, wisdom, insight, and strength to resist every temptation and live victoriously:

“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it” (1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV84).

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:37–39 NIV84).

When we return to worshiping God as Creator and understand that His laws are not like human laws, that His laws are not imposed rules that when broken require God to inflict punishment, then we stop living in fear of God and realize instead that He is our loving Creator and that, like a loving doctor, He sees that we are sick in sin, dying of this terminal sin condition, and rather than condemning us, rather than letting us die, He sent His Son to provide the remedy to heal us and restore us to righteousness, to unity with Him so that we might have everlasting life.

So run to Jesus, throw yourself at His feet, and, as King David did, eagerly invite Him to search your heart and find any wicked way, any elements of the infection of sin, and remove them to create in you a clean heart and right spirit so that you can live the victorious life of love that He has designed for you to live!

Testimony 60

Just watched watched lesson 10 in the 1st quarter 2021 bible study classs on Isaiah. I want to thank you for your intellectual spirituality; it’s not an oxymoron! From the point of view of a teacher I also enjoy seeing how much personal pleasure you clearly take in not just tasting, but feasting on God’s word – it reminds me of Jeremiah not being able to hold it in! It makes me smile that your cup is so full and overflowing that you make it to Tuesday’s lesson (on a good day). It just goes to show the richness of God’s Word.

God bless the Come and Reason Team from our church here in Great Britain.

Testimony 75

Thank you so much for everything you do! Because of all these truths, I’m excited to be with Jesus! I always pray everyday, “COME TODAY, JESUS.” Before finding C&R, I was always praying for delays, “NOT TODAY OH GOD. I AM NOT READY.” I just need to share more, talk more bout this truth, so everybody will be excited for Jesus.

Testimony 8

Thank you for the ministry you are sharing with us, it is a real blessing to us and especially to my husband and myself! You are encouraging us to think for ourselves and not just to except everything, without thinking it through, with God’s word!

Testimony 41

I have been blessed by your ministry. I have experienced personally, and deeply resonate with, the God of love and the beautiful picture of God’s character that you present. I have seen your seminar series on YouTube, read ‘The Journal of the Watcher’ book, used your mobile app, and also listen/study the bible study lesson with you each week. I concur with many of the thoughts and perspectives that you share. I understand your conclusions on natural laws vs imposed law and the legal/penal substitution (incorrect diagnosis). This makes perfect sense to me.

Bless you for all you do.

Testimony 29

Thank you for all of your work to correct misconceptions about God’s character. So many people that my husband and I have talked to seem to be against the natural law construct and view it as “errant” and “dangerous.” Having learned more about it through your blogs and lessons, I don’t really understand why they view it that way, except that it means they have to relearn theology they have known for their entire lives. But I’m so excited to relearn this. For the past few years I have been questioning how I could trust a God who punishes arbitrarily and is full of wrath for those who don’t obey His commands. That view made me afraid to “mess up” or “not be good enough,” even within my relationship with God. I really appreciated the point you bring out about God not wanting us to serve Him because we are afraid, but because we love Him.

God lead me to your book “The God-Shaped Brain” while I was searching for another book about the brain and then to your interview about your book on HeartWise Ministries [where] I found out about [Come And Reason Ministries]. I’m now devouring the webcasts of your Bible studies. I have been so greatly blessed and I thank God so much for your courage to speak the Truth in love no matter what. Listening to you contrast the two opposing systems (laws) and digging deep to unearth the hidden treasures in the Bible makes me so incredibly happy and I feel very blessed to be part of your Bible Study Group although I live far away. I am just so excited that there is a group of people that is spreading the Truth about the character of God and it saddens me how few realize what our Father in Heaven is really like.

I have been following your Bible study class for about a year now. I must say I am impressed with how your ministry has grown. I took it upon myself to listen to all your lesson podcasts from the past and they have both enriched me physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I have learnt a lot from this class. I have also noticed how the class has grown in spiritual strength. One of the things that benefited me is that now I am not afraid of God. I use to be, but now it has melted away. The second thing is that you helped me to have a real life relationship with God. Now He is my friend that was always there and I love having him with me all the time. Thirdly, because of this class, it inspired me to take over and lead a class. I have called it “Let Us Reason Together,” adapting your inquisitive style and creating a class of free thinkers.

I would love to have a copy of “Healing the Mind” DVDs to have in my therapy office. I enjoy having clients check out materials to enhance their therapy experience. I have sat under Dr. Jennings’ teaching at an American Association of Christian Counselors convention and respect his work greatly.

Testimony 13

I borrowed “Healing The Mind” DVDs from a friend and showed them at my home for a small gathering of women friends. Neither of my friends are Adventist, but they both enjoyed and embraced the messages you taught. In fact, one of the ladies prayed out loud in our group and that was the first time she had ever had public prayer.

Testimony 64

I’ve been reading the bible and walking with Jesus since I was around 16. I’m 42 now. I’ve mostly been alone in my walk although I went to several churches in different denominations. For the past 3 years God has been showing me His character of agape. It’s been a blessing and changed how I view God and my walk with Jesus. About a year ago I came across the power of love and the principles of design law. These teachings changed how I read scripture and have been such a beautiful blessing. I’m very excited and grateful for these truths. We share these truths of agape, design law and the reality of the principles of the two trees in the garden of Eden with people on Facebook and YouTube. People all over are learning to trust God and His agape design law which makes life possible. Thank you for everything you shared with me. May God continue to bless your ministry and lives.

I have been sharing Come And Reason Ministries Bible study lessons with several folk. You have such a beautiful view of the plan of salvation. If we had this message preached when I was young, my generation would still all be in church.

Testimony 54

I had a lot of pressure, as a pastor’s kid, to conform and be “good.” I was good at being “good.” I thought my life was going along well until it all started falling apart and I could not figure out why! In my search for “why is this happening to me, God?” I came across your book, “Could it be this Simple,” and God started revealing to me the many distortions I held about His character, His principles, and how He has designed His universe to operate. I remember thinking, “Wow, I have had this all backwards.” I was happy and angry all at the same time. Happy to have the light of truth break through the darkness, revealing a wonderful, beautiful way of understanding God and His plan for His children, and angry, because I felt deceived and cheated by the church, my family, and myself!

My heart thrills when I listen to your bible study lessons. Literally I have gone from death to life. It is a journey I look forward to every day, as God reveals areas this distortion affects. Praise GOD! I will ever be grateful to God for this ministry and your cooperation with the Spirit!
