Ellen G. White En Die Ingewande-Brein-Verbinding

Ek het onlangs na ‘n opgeneemde aanbieding geluister waarin die spreker die volgende aanhaling van Ellen G. White, een van die stigters van die Sewendedag Adventiste Kerk, gelees het:

As jy gevra word om ‘n raadsvergadering by te woon, moet jy jou afvra of jou waarnemingsvermoëns in ‘n behoorlike toestand is om bewyse te weeg. As jy nie in ‘n behoorlike toestand is nie, as jou brein verward is, het jy geen reg om aan die vergadering deel te neem nie. Is jy onrustig? Is jou ingesteldheid soet en aangenaam, of is dit so versteurd en onaangenaam dat jy gelei sal word om oorhaastige besluite te neem? Voel jy asof jy graag met iemand wil baklei? Moet dan nie na die vergadering gaan nie; want as jy gaan, sal jy God sekerlik oneer aandoen. Neem ‘n byl en kap hout of oefen totdat jou gees versag het en maklik bepleit kan word. Net so seker as wat jou maag ‘n versteuring in jou brein veroorsaak, sal jou woorde ‘n versteuring in die vergadering veroorsaak. Meer probleme word veroorsaak deur versteurde spysverteringsorgane as wat baie besef (Medical Ministry, bl. 295, geskryf in 1900).

My eerste reaksie hierop was dat dit ongelooflike wysheid is. Ek het ook besef dat ek soms in die verlede daarby sou baat gevind het as ek dit vroeër gelees en toegepas het, want daar was vergaderinge wat ek bygewoon het dat dit vir my verstandiger sou gewees het om tuis te bly. Gelukkig het ek deur God se genade geleer om ‘n lieflike, kalm en vriendelike gesindheid te soek wanneer ek vergaderinge bywoon; Ek het besef dat wanneer dit waarskynlik is dat ek ernstige meningsverskille in ‘n vergadering in die gesig kan staar, hoe meer moet ek my verstand en hart voorberei voordat ek gaan.

Maar die idee dat die maag en ander spysverteringsorgane die funksie van die brein kan beïnvloed, het my regtig getref – dat ‘n nie-mediese persoon in die jaar 1900 ‘n mens se spysverteringsfunksie met breinfunksie kan verbind, is ietwat ongelooflik, want eers onlangs het die mediese wetenskap die spysvertering-brein-verband ontdek en die groot impak wat die mikrobioom van die ingewande op breinfunksie het.

Die volwasse gastro-intestinale (GI) stelsel bevat ‘n diverse gemeenskap van verskillende mikroörganismes (1 tot 2 kilogram bakterieë), en die voedsel wat ons eet, het ‘n direkte invloed op watter organismes floreer en watter nie. En die organismes wat in ons ingewande leef, produseer verskillende neweprodukte van hul metabolisme wat ‘n impak op ons gesondheid het en eintlik met ons fisiologie kan kommunikeer, wat positiewe of negatiewe gevolge het.

Gesonde bakterieë verbeter ons dermvoering, verminder inflammasie, terwyl ongesonde bakterieë bydra tot ‘n lekkende ingewande en verhoogde inflammasie, wat bydra tot ‘n verskeidenheid gesondheidsprobleme. Gesonde bakterieë produseer brein-neurotransmitters soos GABS (gamma-aminobutiriese suur), serotonien en ander psigo-aktiewe verbindings wat dit na die brein maak en ons bui en veerkragtigheid verbeter, terwyl ongesonde bakterieë dit nie doen nie. Vrywilligers wat Lactobacillus helveticus R0052 plus B longum vir 30 dae ontvang het, het aansienlik laer stresvlakke gerapporteer as diegene wat ‘n plasebo ontvang het. En 124 vrywilligers (gemiddelde ouderdom, 61.8 jaar) wat drie weke lank probiotika-bevattende jogurt verbruik het, se buie het aansienlik verbeter in vergelyking met diegene wat ‘n plasebo ontvang het. Vier studies waarby 36,556 volwassenes betrokke was, het bevind dat die beoefening van ‘n Mediterreense diet, die risiko van depressie met 33 persent verminder het in vergelyking met dié op ‘n gewone Amerikaanse dieet. Aan die ander kant van die spektrum is die eet van ‘n pro-inflammatoriese dieet hoog in vet, suiker en verwerkte voedsel gekoppel aan ‘n hoër depressierisiko. [2]

Soos ons gewig optel en ons LMI (liggaamsmassa indeks) toeneem, neem die gesonde bakterieë Bacteroidetes af, en dit word geassosieer met groter depressie. [3]

Psigiese stres aktiveer die immuunrespons van die liggaam, wat inflammatoriese sitokiene verhoog. Dit vind plaas omdat die liggaam potensiële eksterne bedreigings waarneem, net soos wat sou voorkom wanneer ‘n beer aanval, en die immuunstelsel aktiveer om die persoon teen bakteriële of virale indringers te beskerm op dieselfde manier as ‘n mens fisies aangerand sou word en byt- of kloumerke het. Die liggaam ken nie die verskil tussen emosionele/geestelike bedreigings en werklike bedreigings nie – soos ‘n kwaai beer – en reageer dus met dieselfde immuunrespons.

Die toenemende inflammatoriese faktore is bedoel om te beskerm as ‘n mens indringende bakterieë of virusse gehad het, maar aangesien die toename te wyte is aan geestelike stres, veroorsaak hierdie inflammatoriese faktore eerder probleme vir die liggaam, soos insulienweerstandigheid, wat die risiko vir tipe II-diabetes, vetsug, hipercholesterolemie en ander metaboliese probleme verhoog.

Chroniese geestelike stres, wat die sein na die liggaam van ‘n bedreiging stuur, plaas die liggaam in krisismodus, wat nie net die immuunstelsel aktiveer, wat die inflammatoriese faktore verhoog nie, maar dit verhoog ook dermdeurlaatbaarheid, wat in tye van werklike bedreiging en besering die opname van water en natrium verbeter. As dit egter nie opgelos word deur die geestelike stres en bedreigingsein wat na die liggaam gaan te verminder nie, kan dit lei tot “lekkende derm” en ‘n toename in endotoksiene wat die bloedstroom binnedring, wat inflammasie verder verhoog, en die verhoogde inflammasie word na die brein oorgedra wat bydra tot verdere geestesgesondheidsprobleme, soos depressie en ‘n verhoogde risiko vir Alzheimer’s demensie.

Gesonde dermbakterieë kan help om die derm-epiteelversperring te verbeter en studies toon dat pre- en probiotika help om dit te bereik, met die daaropvolgende afname in inflammasie in die liggaam en verbetering in gemoedstoestand by individue wat aan depressie ly. [4] [5] [6]

‘n 2023-studie wat verskeie diëte en buie vergelyk het, het bevind dat ‘n plantgebaseerde dieet met positiewe bui geassosieer word.[7] Dit is heel waarskynlik as gevolg van ‘n kombinasie van faktore wat insluit die vermindering van inflammasie uit die voedsel, die verbetering van dermbakterieë en die neuro-oordragstowwe wat hulle vrystel, die verbetering van dermgesondheid met verbeterde dermvoering en vermindering van “lekkende derm” en daardeur verminderde inflammasie en daaropvolgende verbetering in metaboliese gesondheid en vermindering in vetsug.

Hoe verbasend dit ook al lyk, die raad wat meer as 100 jaar gelede gegee is, is nie net wys nie, maar ook wetenskaplik akkuraat! Ek moedig jou aan om te kies om in harmonie met die wette van gesondheid te leef en gesonde voedselkeuses te maak – jy sal jou algemene gesondheid verbeter en waarskynlik ook beter geestelike en emosionele gesondheid ervaar.

I had a lot of pressure, as a pastor’s kid, to conform and be “good.” I was good at being “good.” I thought my life was going along well until it all started falling apart and I could not figure out why! In my search for “why is this happening to me, God?” I came across your book, “Could it be this Simple,” and God started revealing to me the many distortions I held about His character, His principles, and how He has designed His universe to operate. After reading your book, ‘Could It Be This Simple,’ someone was explaining Christianity in a way that made sense to me for the first time in my life. One morning, I simply prayed “I’m sorry and I love you.” As soon as I silently said that, I could literally feel God’s presence and light flood down on me from above and fill me up with love and joy. I sat there crying my eyes out, because I was so overpowered with this feeling of love and joy. It was just so incredible. I hope that more people can read this book and get a blessing from it. It’s really amazing.

I came into the church at 21, but that is as far as it went. I was so confused about what love is. I couldn’t find it in the bible, because I am not a person that can read between the lines. I have no logic. I have read many, many books; trying to figure out the crux of the matter. They were helpful, but something was still missing. I have become very frustrated to the point of crying out to God, “Where can I go?”  I needed some basics.

I found two books, written by Timothy Jennings, MD, to be very helpful. God showed me that I had lived my whole life in fear. I didn’t even see it. Now, I do. God is so good.  I discovered the “The Remedy”  Dr. Jennings new book, “The God-Shaped Heart!” Oh, I was so excited, I purchased them right away.

I can get rid of most of my books, because “The Remedy” brings the Love of God out so clearly, even I can’t miss it. Now, I want to sit and read my Bible. Wow, what a revelation! It is just simply Awesome! I am so grateful to Jehovah Almighty for hearing my prayer for more understanding! I am so encouraged!

Testimony 37

Hearing Dr. Jennings’ presentations in person came at a pivotal moment in my spiritual journey that began about nine months ago, when the fault lines inherent in my belief system began to crack under questions that most reasonable people end up asking about God and His nature. These were questions I couldn’t find answers to, and they shook my faith. I was unable let it go any longer and be satisfied. My Christian experience became distant. I was afraid; the fear in me rose like thorns, pushing me away from Jesus. And then someone heard my questions and introduced me to this ministry, and my life has totally changed.

I can tell you that this new, “present truth” message is far grander and life-changing than when I shifted from being an agnostic and then a nominal Christian. It has radically altered my worldview, because it reveals a God that makes sense. It is a revolution. I believe that Dr. Jennings’ message is the final message that must go to the world. If any message could be called “righteousness by faith,” as abused as that term is by the right and the left, this is that message, because Jennings’ biblical message identifies a God who is different, whose character isn’t an impossible contradiction.

I walk this path now without fear. I see people differently, and the Holy Spirit burns in my heart. Many call Dr. Jennings’ message false and compromising, but it isn’t false, because I’ve seen the fruits within my mind and body. It is not compromising, because in this message is the only road to holiness that makes any sense. No longer do I behold a pagan god who is always angry and suspicious. Instead, I behold a God who is freeing and loving, always working for our good, and giving me every reason to love my enemy even to my own death, just as Jesus pleads with us. God is good.

I was introduced to Come And Reason by a friend of my mother-in-law, who gave me several CD’s of Dr. Jennings. The clarity of the message and recognition that God’s is a God of love was so clear, advancing beyond Dr. Maxwell’s message. However, grappled with Maxwell saying God used emergency measures for the fallen world. Now after several years of being a regular listener of the Come And Reasoning bible study class and attending Jennings’ meetings in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, things are becoming clearer for me. Design law versus imposed law has added so much to my personal understanding of theology. This message has really impacted my work in counseling so many people miserable because they are searching for and trusting human governments to create order and peace or believing in a God who says love Me or I will kill you.
