Hello! I’m Stephanie Land. I am happily married to Michael Land and have two incredible children, Lennox and Dexter. I have a background in accounting, but I currently homeschool my kids. I also volunteer with Come And Reason Ministries in a variety of ways. It’s wild how God will lead when you’re willing to follow. I never thought I would homeschool, then again, I never thought I would become an author.
Becoming a mother was the major catalyst that brought me closer to God. When my children were small, I was constantly confronted with personal scenarios that would remind me of how God would have to be stern in order to lovingly protect his children from danger. However, I also saw how that behavior could be misunderstood and used to sow fear, willfully or not.
When my daughter was six years old, her Christian private school teacher began to fill her head with fearful ideas about God. My daughter came to me with great concerns about hellfire and God’s wrath – she felt unsafe with this picture of an angry and mean god. To be honest, I was not pleased that this teacher was reading Revelation to children who could not yet discern the prophetic metaphors presented in this book of the Bible. However, I was glad that my daughter brought these questions to me and that we could talk through them together. It was clear she understood that there were different viewpoints about God, but she struggled to figure out whom to trust in learning the truth about Him – after all, wasn’t she supposed to be able to trust her teacher?
We talked and soon realized that the major difference in our understanding of God – versus her teacher’s understanding – was in how we viewed God’s law. This began my journey to help my daughter develop her critical-thinking abilities to come to know the truth for herself. It was also why I wrote “God is Love” – a children’s book that explains God’s character of love and design for life. This book also helps children to trust our amazing Creator God who just wants to heal us from the sin-sickness that is hurting us.
As my daughter grew up, she started talking about wanting to be baptized. However, I knew that to be baptized in our church meant she would have to take baptismal classes and study baptismal workbooks. So, I did some research and wasn’t thrilled with what I found. Pretty much every baptismal lesson taught biblical concepts through the distorted imposed-law lens, but we had come to understand God as the Creator and Designer whose laws are the design parameters for life to exist. We also understood how this difference in viewing God’s law made a huge impact on understanding all other biblical teachings. So, I set out to present these biblical concepts through the design-law lens with my second book, “Biblical Concepts Made Easy.”
I never aspired to be an author, but God laid these books on my heart and nudged me to write them. During the editing phase of “Biblical Concepts Made Easy,” my daughter and I sat down and went through the book together. After we finished going through the entire book, she told me that her favorite topic to learn about was God’s fire! My daughter ended up getting baptized on the day the book was officially released.
Come And Reason Ministries and this design law understanding has had an incredible influence in my life and in my relationship with God. I am passionate to help my kids – and yours – to grow in this truth as well. I have never understood biblical concepts so easily as I have through the design-law lens and it is my hope that my books will be just the beginning of your kids’ journey to know God better!
