Psalms ◦ Chapter 56
1Show your favor for me, O God, for people walk all over me;
they constantly oppress me — they won’t let up.2Every day my adversaries trample on me;
the many who attack me think they are better than me. 3When I am afraid,
I will trust in you.4I glory in God, standing confidently upon the truth;
I trust completely in God and his methods of love — I will not live in fear:
what can mere mortals do to me?5They constantly misrepresent what I say;
they use all their abilities to plot ways to harm me.6They slither in the shadows, conspiring together;
they watch every step I take,
craving an opportunity to destroy me. 7The pain and sorrow caused by deviating from your design they cannot escape;
indeed, how low have the people fallen, O God! 8You have recorded my grief;
you have taken away my tears —
is not my character transcribed in your book?9My enemies will turn their backs
when I proclaim the truth,
but this I know: God is for me.10I glory in God, standing confidently upon the truth.
I glory in the Lord, standing confidently upon the truth;11I trust completely in God and his methods of love — I will not live in fear:
what can mere mortals do to me?12As I have vowed to you, O God,
I give my life an offering of thanksgiving to you.13For you have saved me from death;
you have kept me from stepping out of harmony with your design for life,
that I may walk in God’s presence —
in the light of his life-giving glory.
they constantly oppress me — they won’t let up.2Every day my adversaries trample on me;
