Psalms  ◦   Chapter 114

1When Israel was brought out of Egypt —
the descendants of Jacob from a foreign power,

2Judah became God’s agency to carry out his healing plan —
Israel the avenue for his kingdom of love.

3The sea recognized God’s presence and fled,
the Jordan also parted;

4the mountains skipped like rams,
the hills quaked like young lambs.

5Why did the sea flee
or the Jordan part,

6or the mountains skip like rams
or the hills quake like young lambs?

7The earth dances at the presence of the Creator —
at the presence of the God of Jacob,

8who turned a rock into a pool of water;
yes, a solid rock into a spring of water.
