Psalms  ◦   Chapter 132

1O Lord, remember David —
his heart was afflicted because of his love for you.

2Remember, Lord, his promise —
the vow he made to the Mighty God of Jacob: 1

3"I will not retire to my home
or lay around in my bed,

4or experience a peaceful sleep
or a satisfied rest,

5until I find a place to build a house for the Lord —
a sanctuary for the Mighty God of Jacob."

6We heard about the ark while in Ephrathah,
but we found it in the fields of Jaar.

7We will enter the Lord’s sacred healing place
and worship at his footstool.

8Establish, O Lord, your resting place —
the place for your ark, the symbol of your healing power.

9May all who minister your remedy be clothed in your character of love;
may your healed people sing for joy.

10For the sake of David, your loyal follower,
do not reject your anointed one.

11The Lord made a solemn vow to David,
a promise that he will not break:
"One of your own descendants
will reign on your throne.

12If your descendants take my remedy and follow my treatment plan,
living in harmony with my design protocols for life I teach them,
then their descendants will reign
on your throne for ever and ever."

13For the Lord has chosen Zion,
he has desired it as the distribution hub for his remedy to sin:

14"This is where I want to live forever;
this is where I want my government of love to be established.

15I will provide all that is needed for my plan to succeed;
I will feed all who hunger.

16I will clothe with eternal life those who minister my remedy,
and all who accept my healing will sing for joy.

17Here I will make David’s descendant both Remedy and King,
and my Anointed One will enlighten my people.

18I will cover his enemies with shame,
but he himself will be crowned with life everlasting."

1 Much of David’s suffering was due to his honoring the Lord’s plan and timing, and refusal to rebel against Saul, the Lord’s anointed.
