Psalms  ◦   Chapter 8

1O Lord, our Creator,
how magnificent is your design of love seen throughout all the earth!
Your design of never-ending giving (the circle of love)
is written in the cosmos for all to see.

2From the mouths of trusting children and innocent babes
comes the foundation of strength — truth and love —
which distresses your enemies
and silences your vengeful foes.

3When I think about the vastness of the universe
(realizing it is just finger-work for you),
the moon and the stars,
which you set and keep in their perfect place —

4why are humans so important to you,
or the Son of Man that you care about him?

5You made human beings just a little lower than God
but endowed them with glorious godlike abilities and authority.

6You designed humanity to rule the planet in love like you rule the universe;
everything on earth you put under their authority:

7all domestic animals, flocks and herds,
and all the wild animals,

8including the birds flying above
and the fish swimming beneath waves,
all that lives in the currents of the seas.

9O Lord, our Creator,
how magnificent is your design of love seen throughout all the earth!
