Psalms ◦ Chapter 124

1What would have happened if the Lord had not been for us?
Let all Israel say this:

2What would have happened if the Lord had not been for us
when people rose against us?

3They would have devoured us
when their anger burned against us;

4the flood would have drowned us,
the torrents washed over us,

5the raging waters
would have swept us away.

6Give thanks to the Lord,
who did not let our enemies destroy us.

7We have escaped like a bird
out of a hunter’s cage:
the cage has been broken,
and we are set free.

8Our deliverance comes from the God of love —
the Creator of heaven and earth.
