Genesis  ◦   Chapter 5

1This is the written record of Adam’s descendants: When God created humankind, he made them to be like the Creator God – to operate upon other-centered love and in the unity of love to bring forth new life in their image.2Thus he created them male and female and blessed their united self. On the day he created them, he called the united pair a Complete Man (or Human).

3When Adam was 130 years old, he had a son in his own likeness, both physically and spiritually, and named him Seth.4Adam lived 800 more years after he had Seth, and he fathered other sons and daughters.5Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died.

6When Seth was 105 years old, he fathered Enosh.7Seth lived 807 more years after he had Enosh, and he fathered other sons and daughters.8Seth lived a total of 912 years, and then he died.

9When Enosh was 90 years old, he fathered Kenan. 10Enosh lived 815 more years after he had Kenan, and he fathered other sons and daughters.11Enosh lived a total of 905 years, and then he died.

12When Kenan was 70 years old, he fathered Mahalalel. 13Kenan lived 840 more years after he had Mehalalel, and he fathered other sons and daughters.14Kenan lived a total of 910 years, and then he died.

15When Mahalalel was 65 years old, he fathered Jared. 16Mahalalel lived 830 more years after he had Jared, and he fathered other sons and daughters. 17Mahalalel lived a total of 895 years, and then he died.

18When Jared was 162 years old, he fathered Enoch. 19Jared lived 800 more years after he had Enoch, and he fathered other sons and daughters.20Jared lived a total of 962 years, and then he died.

21 When Enoch was 65 years old, he fathered Methuselah. 22After he had Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years, and he fathered other sons and daughters. 23Enoch lived on earth for a total of 365 years. 24Enoch walked with God and then he disappeared from the earth, because God took him away.

25When Methuselah was 187 years old, he fathered Lamech. 26Methuselah lived 782 more years after he had Lamech, and he fathered other sons and daughters. 27Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then he died.

28When Lamech was 182 years old, he fathered a son. 29He named him Noah, saying, “He will grieve over the changes brought by the Lord in the earth, that increase our work and the painful labor of farming.” 30Lamech lived 595 more years after he had Noah, and he fathered other sons and daughters. 31Lamech lived a total of 777 years, and then he died.

32After Noah was 500 years old, he fathered Shem (the patriarch of Abraham), Ham (the youngest), and Japheth (the firstborn).
